Pretty nice and chill hike with not a lot of elevation gain but this can be miserable if it is high 80s or 90s since there is not a ton of shade and the trail isn’t very well maintained
-great to do in the spring when it is green and not too hot

This is a nice 3 mile loop that starts at the parking lot at Beeks Bight and runs around a small hill. While there is some up and down it is by and large gentle. Much of the trail runs through woodland so it offers some shade (we hiked it on a spring-like February day and recognized it would like be a hot dry hike in midsummer). Most of the trail is multi-use and we encountered a lot of mountain bikers. There were also hoof prints and manure along the way be we didn’t see any horses. This would likely make a nice trail running loop. There’s a pit toilet at the parking lot but I didn’t see any water.

This trail is part of the well known Western States Endurance Run aka Western 100 held every June since 1977. The race begins in Tahoe and ends in Auburn, CA. It’s an out and back trail and I enjoyed the turtles, ducks, fish, and geese basking in the sun on this cold October day. The water level was super low and it was enjoyable hiking down to the river and bouldering the granite rocks. The leaves were showing signs of autumn and the birds and squirrels were a treat to spy on.

It has all. Starts along a peaceful canal, goes down leisurely, follows the river, gives a nice boost of training up the Cardiac trail, and again allows to wind down back along the canal. All under 4 miles and parking is easy on a weekday.

Fair amount of shade if stick to path further from water. Plenty of parking. No one around early on. Porta potties at trail head. (My Knee Assessment Hike for my Summit Training corse)
