Bonney Meadow from NF4990
07/05/2020 (sih, cvg) Five years later, the easy access from NF 4590 no longer seems worth it; first two miles up to Bonney Meadow are hard and boring, especially with the prospect of long slog back up from the lake to look forward to. Best to suck it up and make the horrible drive up NF 4591 direct to Bonney Meadow, and then do the Bonney Meadow Loop hike. Bonney Meadow beautiful in early July; a few mosquitos around the Meadow, but not a problem. Boulder Lake nice, number of campsites occupied. DON'T DO THIS ONE AGAIN.
8/19/15 (sih, cvg) Nice hike. Moderately strenuous; steady moderate two mile uphill at start, level around the meadow, then rather steep descent/return to the attractive little lake. Decent variety of terrain; woods, mountain meadow with view of Hood, huge rock slides, charming mountain lake. Uncrowded on middle of the week hike in mid-August; couple of small groups of mountain bikers, one small party at the lake. Only one site occupied at the campgrounds.
Access: Drive 6.8 miles down Highway 48 from Highway 35. Turn left (intersection sign, but no road sign or number) on to FR 4890, nice blacktop. Drive one mile to four-way intersection and park (plenty of room for several cars). Look for little typical wooden trail sign for Bonney Meadows Trail #471
