This was a beautiful pleasant hike with perfect cooler, clean, fresh air. I was able to keep up on this hike because the elevation gain wasn’t extreme. The trail to Alberta Falls had a lot of foot traffic and families with children. The trail winds through aspen forest, where there are many sunny outlooks and vantage points of the gorge. The scenic 30-foot waterfall thunders down a narrow gorge on Glacier Creek. This is a great stop for pictures and to enjoy the view and the sound of the waterfall. It’s another 2 miles to Mills Lake; the trail is beautiful. There are many log bridges to cross the creek, and rocky overlooks with expansive views. Mills Lake is a very long lake with outcroppings of flat rocks. We walked almost to the end of the lake and had lunch on some rocks overlooking the lake and the majestic mountains in the background. At the lake we needed mosquito repellent. The way back was mostly downhill but very rocky, so we needed to watch our steps. I almost tumbled 3 times. My poles saved me. Jeanne, Madeleine and I decided to take a shortcut to the Glacier Gorge parking lot as recommended by a Ranger because that trail was mostly downhill. This was a lovely trail by a creek with some newly built bridges. The trail was super green and lush. The shuttle took us back to the Park and Ride where we meet the other hikers.
