Strawberry Peak (12/2/21, 11:37:56AM)
Hiked with Lark & Storm.
Trail: started at Red Box at 11:40 am. Trail in good condition. At times, sandy, rocky, flat, steep, rock scramble.
Weather: started hiking late, it was already 71 F, almost no breeze. It felt hot until we reached the saddle, where trail intersects with trail to Mt. Lowler & Strawberry Meadows.
Water Source: none
Wildlife Sightings: lizards, birds
Summit: amazing views all around. Can’t wait to try the mountaineering route some day soon.
Other Hikers: met two female hikers about 0.5 miles from the start, they were coming back from Strawberry Meadows. Just passed the saddle met a solo female trail runner. Passed a couple with a baby just passed the saddle. Met another solo men hiker as we were reaching the summit. On the way back we didn’t meet anyone
Started hiking at 11:40, got to summit 1:30, took 15 minutes break, back at saddle 2:30 pm, finished hike 3:15 pm
Things To Remember:
1) Bring enough hydration fluid, water, electrolytes. Trail is 90% exposed, meaning there is little shade only on few spots before the saddle, in the first 2 miles.
2) Have good hiking shoes. I use LaSportiva Approach Shoes. I love them.
Trail is very diverse, flattish, then sandy, rocky, steep, scrambling on rocks. But doable & nice.
3) Keep in mind temperatures. If no breeze, you will need more hydration.
4) Sun screen, sunglasses, hat, gloves- you will use your hands to steady yourself, hiking poles !!! Headlamp if you start late.
