The hike to Lake Michael is straight forward. The summit of Goat Mountain is not so much. When looking at this GPS track there are two things I want to point out. 1. When you approach, it's easier to go up the left side of the rock gully along the trees. This is the route we took on the descent and it was much easier than side-hilling approach along the ridge. 2. Final approach to gain the ridge is tricky. If you go all the way to the top of the ridge you will be in the class 4 climbing area. This is the route I took on the ascent. However, on the descent I found a path along the rock face about 30ft below. This was all simple class 3. Once you are on the dirt portion of the ridge, it's all class 2.
