Desota State Park Track (12/15/19, 12:32:31)
Great beginner ride!
Helping folk become familiar with the tools of a 4x4. It was a mostly cloudy day, opened to rays of sun at times. 4 Rovers (95 LWB, 96, 97, & 98 Discovery’s) enjoyed a mild but damp day with a sandy and solid bottom trail ready for adventure. There was even a marker listing part of this traverse as the ‘actual Trail of Tears’.....crazy times. Primarily, a maintained forestry road, the spurs offered a bit more challenge for the beginner. My son was co-pilot, and at 14, his first off-road fore’ was awesome......the beautiful river crossings of clear water, the moderately shallow mud pits (we counted 15 of the thin slurry) with solid bottoms, and nice mildly rutted hill climbs that may get you into trouble if you weren’t careful. And while the forestry service was working on the main road quite a bit, it was evident there had been a fire not too long ago, as the base of all the trees to our left we’re charred/black from the ground up for about 2-3’. Another measure of history of this forest.
A great day for a Sunday drive and any excuse to get the Rover dirty.
Next up Chattahoochee Alabama, y’all to ya soon. P.S. we started out this day in north GA, but crossed into northern Alabama just a bit to enjoy this part of the National Forest, nice.
