Saturday, Kelly and I backpacked another part of the 111mile Centennial Trail. This portion was from Pilot Knob TH to South BoxElder Creek TH a distance of 6.5 miles. We did a car to car trip as this was not a loop trail. The weather was perfect started out in the mid 40’s and remained there throughout the morning. The winds were a little gusty at times between 20-30mph, but a lot of our trip was on the other side of the mountain and out of the winds. This part of the trail is a ATV trail, but we ran into no ATV’s or people. Seen a lot of whitetails, chipmunks. It was easy to walk side by side and this made our own conversation very relaxing and easy to do. We started out with about a 400 foot climb for the first 1.5 miles and then the trail straightened out and was mostly downhill or flat for the remainder 5.0 miles. This was an easy trip compared to my trip last week and we had a very enjoyable hike with good conversation and just enjoyed the beauty of the Black Hills. Thanks for reading and enjoy the pics.
