Very well-maintained, nice trail. Gradual elevation with mostly long switchbacks. One section switchbacks closer together. Hike was moderately-strenuous. Wildflowers were beautiful and diverse, lots of wild rhododendrons at the beginning. Outstanding views from Mt Townsend and beyond, above the clouds. The clouds rolled in and out continually obscuring and then revealing. Lots of craggy, colorful rock formations, wildflowers, and open meadow views between Mt Townsend and the North Peak. Small loop doable and a must add. Next time continue ridge walking or hike further on trail to Dirty Face Ridge or Little River Peak, which is a 1200’ decent that we’d have to climb back up again to hike out. It’s possible to stage cars but a very long drive to do that.
