Dolly Sods September 2020 Loop

September 10th to September 13th 2020 Group Hike Jeremy McCartney John Hickinbotham Mark Dye Rick Reed Logan Reed Started and ended at Bear Rocks. 26.54 miles but tracking was off for almost a mile. Calling this trip 27 miles. 1st night camp on Stonecoal Run before turnoff to Dunkenbarger Trail. Nice site in pines to the right of creek crossing. 2nd night camp on Red Creek past Fisher Spring Trail and before crossing creek. Camp site to left of crossing. 3rd night camp in pines at intersection of Beaver View and Ravens Ridge. Camp was Plan B as the first pine camp on Raven Ridge was occupied. Trip Highlights and Notes Dunkenbarger is dense, narrow and muddy. Mixed up after crossing creek. Correct way is to cross creek and turn right. Logan fell in Red Creek at Little Stonecoal as he was almost across. Cell phone wet but OK. Jeremy had a lot of snacks and hammock setup. John sang songs, yodeled and had cigars. Mark packs up quickly. Rain on first day but stopped. Heavy fog on Saturday approaching Blackbird Knob. Remained foggy for the day and night. 3rd night heard a close coyote and may have spooked deer. One hour from 3rd night camp to car.
