Beautiful hike on a cool fall day at Crowders Mountain, one of the oldest land masses in North America formed 400-500 million years ago. The appropriately named RockGap Trail on the way up involves some easy rock scrambling across rock formations with gaps formed eons ago while the region was under water. Spectacular views on top make a wonderful lunch stop after the 800 foot elevation climb. Return via the Crowders Trail after taking stairs down the mountain runs through peaceful woods on the back side of the highlands. Park at the visitors center to reach trailhead.
