One of my favorite trail rides. Second time Tim and I have been on this trail ride this year. Trail 65 on the map. Tim recorded map and sent to me.

The area has lots of beautiful scenes and plenty of side trails to catch a good view. The trail itself into the pass is very steep in places and overall very rugged given the equestrian traffic churning up the rocks.

We started out about 8am. Had a nice hike up to Willow Lake. I’ll note, that there was a discrepancy on the location of the last portion of the trail leading to the lake. The actual path did not follow the map. Still found a great spot overlooking the lake.

Good hike. Mountains are a bit understated. Phone died at the edge of the lake. Got a bit lost because of it, and I ended up finding the trail by navigating towards the river.

Very difficult hike to do in one day. The approach to Penrose was fantastic! Penrose is a man maker. Really tough climbing albeit very safe. It’s like 3 miles worth of boulder hopping.

I wouldn’t describe this trail as difficult. It is one of my favorites because it has such variety!
