A nice, low-frills trail with a pretty payoff at the end

Great way to get a quick feel for the AT and your reward is a wonderful overlook. You’ll work for it with a three ups and downs and most of it on rocks. So the ups get your heart and lungs going while the downs work your knees. I recommend a walking stick for the downs. Final bonus is you’ll get two river crossings if not the dry season.

Not sure why this is listed as a one way. You should plan for it to be a round trip. Ther is no parking at end point shown on this.

You can make this a nice out and back day hike. Park at Keys Gap along Rte 9. Cross over Rte 9 and head South. It is pretty much up hill for about 2 miles, but it is very gradual and not taxing. At mile 3 you come to the David Lesser shelter. One of the nicer shelters in the area. Try out the swing by the cooking area.

Hiked in January, only saw a single section hiker on the AT. Quiet and peaceful. Wish it was a loop.
