Stub Stewart State Park is only 34 miles west of Portland. This 1,800 acre state park has many different activities including hiking, biking, horseback riding, disk golf, tent camping, and much more! There are many different areas that allow for day use and overnight camping. At this state park there are pet friendly cabins, RV sites with hook ups, walk-in camp sites, and tent sites. In some areas of the park there are hot showers and restrooms. At the day use area picnic shelters and restrooms are available for your use year round. In the parking lot of the day use area there is a day use pass machine.
Just 34 miles west of Portland follow HWY 26 west-bound, follow signs north to Vernonia on HWY 47. Stub Stewart is on hwy 47 several miles north of HWY 26, signs will be on the right side of the road. When you arrive at the park the ranger station will be available for you to check in for camping or purchase day use permits. As you drive up the hill the different camping loops will be on both sides of the road. At the top of the hill will be the day use area, again there is a day use permit area available for self service. Continuing beyond the day use area the road ends at a large turn-around for horse trailers and horse camp.
The park is open year round. Some camping areas are closed during winter months. During the winter months be sure to check weather reports and ensure the road is passable. During the summer months be sure to make a reservation for camping as the sites will fill up fast.
Day use permits are required. You can obtain the permits at the park for the day, or you can use your yearly state park pass. If you are camping be sure to bring proof of your reservations or you can pay and register at the ranger station near the entrance of the park.
Dogs are welcome as long as they are on leash and please clean up after your pet. Pet stations are available around the park and in the day use area. Pet friendly cabins are also available for you use with your pet. This is a great park for your pets!
