Allamuchy Mountain State Park is a 9,092 acre state park that spans three counties in New Jersey. The park contains Waterloo Village and the Rutherfurd-Stuyvesant Estate. There is a rock climbing area in the park near Waterloo Village.
A few different parking options and ways in to the park. This park has a great gravel main trail as well as many loops and trail options for elevation, and "hiking" The park contains more than 14 miles of marked trails that can be used for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. There's more than 20 miles of unmarked trails in the Northern Section of the park. There is a 3 mile section of the multi-use Sussex Branch Trail and a 10 mile section of the Highlands Trail in the park. The difficulty of the trails range from moderate to difficult.
A 3 mile section of the l starts at Waterloo Road and goes northwest to Cranberry Lake. Using an old railroad bed, this trail provides the hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders easy access from Waterloo Road through Kittatinny Valley State Park to Branchville, New Jersey. There is also a 3 mile water trail on the Musconetcong River which runs through the park. It is ideal for canoes, kayaks and rowboats.
Weekends, go early. Just a note, most of the trails are for foot and mountain biking, so trail etiquette is a must.
Parts of Allamuchy Mountain State Park are open for hunting of deer and small game.
A waiver for rock climbing is required from the park office.
