Lower Shaker Wildlife Management Area is a nature reserve in New Hampshire managed by the NH Fish and Game Agency, There is a long list of restrictions for activities on this property, such as camping, but it is open for passive foot traffic on the roads and trails in the area. The east facing hillside is mostly forested in hardwoods though stands of hemlock and mixed wood forest can also be found. There are fields lower down and NHF&G maintains some wildlife openings at higher elevations.
The entrance is just south of the Enfield Shaker museum on US 4A in the town of Enfield, NH. A long driveway, not plowed in the winter leads back to a kiosk with a map and other information. There is no toilet or trash collection at the site. Trails come down to US 4A at other locations but there is limited or no parking at these other sites. In winter there may be some parking across the road at the museum.
When to Go
The WMA is open year round and is available for hiking, walking and snowshoeing. There is a large hill that appears to be suitable for sledding.
