Hiked up past 3 other small lakes and trail ends at Smith Lake with the towering Little Flat Top above.

Nice easy trail near the camp ground with nice views after leaving the shaded aspens. Met several small groups of hikers and runners.

Decided to hike up twice in one day from the base to the Thunderhead Gondola House. Snow was just right, packed and top was frozen. 4400 vertical feet in 4 miles.

Beautiful hike. Gives you a great view of the area including the falls. The parking lot does charge $5 which includes a QR so you don’t need cash. There is a sign to point out the mine opening as it’s a bit small and covered with plants now.

The first 2 miles are pretty, but can be crowded with people. Only saw 5 hikers on the next 4 miles to Long Lake which was very scenic with a lot of changing scenes - forest, rock features, meadows, and mountain creeks. Long Lake itself was not all I hoped it would be. It looked like an unimpressive man made Lake. Overall a great hike.

This is a good mountain trail run. In early October the weather was perfect for the hike, sunny and 40-50’s in the morning. Pretty steep ascent and a great view at the top where the gondola lets off. Then you can see Mt Werner which is another 2-3 miles out.

Fun ride. It’s a county road and might be boring to some. Great for beginners which I am

Gradual ascent up FSR42 toward Sand and Meaden Peak. Good footing makes for easy running.

Nice hike with a great trail to the top of the gondola. Started early and didn’t run into anyone till the way down. Trail was mostly shaded with nice sections in and out of the trees.

A nice hike that doesn’t require too much effort. Great for viewing wildflowers and interesting volcanically that compose the Rabbit Ears.

Awesome time but lots of mosquitos around 7PM. Beautiful views and wildflowers.

We started the trailhead at 9am. Fields of Lupine and Columbine were abundant on the way up. To get to the top of the ears there is a shirt section of scrambling. Hiking poles helped through steep loose sections on the way down. This is National forest so you may encounter off road vehicles.

This is a great hike that is used less than the neighboring mad creek trail. There are various wildflowers, aspen groves, open space, and forest. You can hike, bike, and ride horseback on the trail. If you ride a horse, there are 2 places on the trail to let them drink. You can connect onto the mad creek trail.
