Very challenging route but great views and plenty of fun. Many technical walls, the steepest ones with climbing aids too.
Requires some level of fitness and some climbing basics help too

Great hike! It was a hot sunny day when visited so glad we did it in the morning. Not much shade. Steep - as in a constant stair case upwards. Super well maintained and well marked. Amazing views of course. Beautiful plants.

A bear, but the vistas were beautiful. Went down Woody Ravine. And that was brutal. Never would have finished the hike in reverse.

This is a beautiful, strenuous, inspiring one-way 14km / 8.7mile hike from the south end of the Table Mountain formation at Hout Bay, to the north end at the cable car which descends into Cape Town.
The south half of this trail is only lightly trafficked, and offers solitude in a wilderness setting. The north half has heavier usage, but is equally beautiful. The trail crosses undulating terrain across the top of the 12 Apostles, through fynbos & chest-high grasses, and crazy rock formations. This includes a side-jaunt to the hidden and very cool, Tranquility Cracks.
The climb up from the Suikerbossie trail head in Hout Bay has significant height exposure in several spots, with a few assisted with permanent anchors (staples, short section of rope). A hiker with a fear of heights will probably have anxious moments.
Once on top, an easy summit of Judas Peak provides stunning views to the south all the way down the Cape Peninsula. From there the rail winds north providing one amazing view after another.
There are limited small streams of water in the north half of this hike, which can be filtered for good drinking water. Otherwise, carry lots of water for this strenuous hike.
A hiker could exit the hike at the mid-way point down the intermediate Kasteelspoort Ravine into Camps Bay.
We concluded the hike at the north end with a ride down the cable car / tram. If one intends to hike down, the steep thousand-steps Platteklip Gorge is 1km east of the cable car top.

A hard 2500 vertical...and we’ve done several. Made up of steep rock steps...think Machu Picchu 😂. Very rewarding & worthwhile
