It was another brilliant blue sky day, but cold (5C). We left Quinta da Cortiça at 8:35 and passed through Cortiça and other picturesque small villages. We reached Alvaiázere where we stopped to pick up some groceries and stopped for coffee and a pastry at Pastelaria Dona Inês. From Alvaiázere we could see Alvaiázere Peak which formed an impressive ridge west of the town. As we left Alvaiázere we were steadily climbing up a ridge towards Ariques Peak. We completed 417m of elevation in the hike today. There were several small villages separated by tall eucalyptus forests. The lemon-Vicks odour was thick in the forests. Eventually we began the descent towards Ansião walking on narrow paths bordered by ancient stone walls. We arrived at our accommodation for the evening, Ansiturismo - Alojamento & SPA at 2:00.
