This trail was extremely crowded! It’s not like in the photos that are portrayed so if you want to see the clouds from the Pico Do Arieiro starting point, you’ll want to go there very early. The paths are paved, narrow with lots of up and down steps (85% stairs), which I was not expecting at all.
Bring water and snack because once we got to Pico Do Ruvie base camp they had no water or washrooms.

Very steep. Views were excellent even a short way up. Did not go all the way up. Just went to the intersection of trails where we could view the next valley.

Nice relaxed walk along a wide and pretty deep Levada that has even fishes. Two long tunnels so take a headlamp. Good waterfalls after the second tunnel where other one needs little bit of off path hiking. Could imagine that the views are nice when weather is clear. Late summer hikes when all of the Hydrangeas are blooming will make this even a nicer hike! Can recommend!

Beautiful but at least today muddy hike along the Levada do Rei. Small tunnel (10m) & a waterfall crossing together with nature at its best. Trail might be slippery. Levada is secured all the way.

Beautiful short hike under trees with plants, flowers & a tunnel crossing. Flashlight needed. Highly recommended!

Great hike, if you like tunnels. With a 4WD you could drive up to the start of the first levada & skip the steep, not too beautiful start. At the levada, follow it to the entrance of the tunnel, where you come out on the return trip, follow the steps left of the tunnel. You’ll reach the entrance of the Tunel do Cavaliero (Riders tunnel). After the tunnel turn right & follow the signs to the 25 Fontes. On the way back from the 25 Fontes stay on the track & turn right down a steep decline. Follow the track until you reach the Levada Rocha Vermelha. Turn left & pass a short tunnel (50m). Follow the levada to the entrance of the long (1.9km) tunnel. When leaving the tunnel, you’ll find yourself at the start of the steps (see above). Flash light needed. Second long tunnel is pretty wet at some places.
