This is a difficult out and back trail from Long Ridge Open Space Preserve on Skyline Blvd. to the Peters Creek Grove in Portola Redwoods State Park.
This trail goes by Turtle Rock in Long Ridge open Spece and the Slate Creek Trail Camp in Portola Redwoods State Park.

There's significant elevation gain on the return trip, not suitable for most children.

Still one of my favorite hikes in the Bay Area. The reasons: the views from Long Ridge Open Space, the redwoods along Slate Creek, and the old-growth redwoods in Peters Creek Grove. I started at 6:30 am this time and got to see the ocean fog coming inland from above, then walked downhill seeing the sun starting to penetrate the forest cover. The trail was in great shape the entire way, and while Peters Creek still has a good bit of water, it was easy enough crossing in both places when looping around Peters Creek Grove. There were a bunch of annoying flies on the hike back up along the Ward Truck Trail, but they disappeared once the path came into full sun.

Started at the Achistaca trailhead off Hwy 35 (Skyline Blvd). First 4 miles were all downhill and mostly with no trees cover. The next 7 miles out and back to Peters Creek, downhill at first but steep uphill coming back to the campground. From there - 4 miles back up, mostly steep climb. An excellent workout hike with nice views in the Portola Redwoods State Park portion of the hike.

Long Ridge OSP to Peter’s Creek, out & back
Hiked from Long Ridge OSP to Peter's Creek in Pescadero State Park. A day after many days of rain and storms. Creeks were flowing, fungi are coming out, the forest feel fresh, but with many fallen tree branches and some trees on the trails.

Long Ridge to Peters Creek Redwood Grove 2018-03-23
Started at Long Ridge Open Space Preserve on Skyline Blvd and hiked down into Portola Redwoods State Park to see the Peters Creek Redwood Grove. It's one of the few old growth groves in the area.
