Overview

This is a moderate loop trail to the summit of Evergreen Mountain in Alderfer/Three Sisters Park. Much of the trail is shaded and the trail is well defined and marked the whole way up. The summit has some nice rock outcroppings to rest on and have lunch before heading back down. You'll likely meet other recreators at the top.

Mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders share this trail and its heavily traveled so brush up on trail etiquette and be courteous to other users. The trail is narrow in spots, so it could be necessary to step off to the side to let others pass.

Don't miss the "Scenic View" offshoot just before the loop around the top.

Getting Started

The parking lot fills up early (by 8am) on weekends. People park along the road once the parking lot fills up and several trails start opposite the side of the road the parking lot is on so be careful of pedestrians appearing between parked cars to cross the road.

Taking Children

Rate this an 8 for kids. This is a good trail for children maybe six and up. It is a bit long but only 1/2 the length is uphill. ;) There are some switchbacks but the trail is shaded and supervised rock climbing at the top will be irresistible. The view toward Evergreen High School will be interesting in contrast to your drive-by.

Mount bikers still do not follow trail etiquette. Overall it is a great trail for when it's sunny out, due to the great coverage.

You have to share the trail with mountain bikers who rarely follow trail etiquette.

As a newbie to hiking, this was my first official trek in the Rockies. Did it on a weekday, heading up the east trail and down on the west. Came across only a handful of mountain bikers, so pretty much had the mountain to myself. Not overly difficult to navigate, and the view from the top is impressive to say the least. Highly recommended.

Very busy with lots of mountain bikes but everyone was courteous and we were all able to use the trail successfully together. Beautiful trail with lots of shade. Took East trailhead up and came back down via West. It's not super easy due to some elevation gain, but I wouldn't call it difficult either. It's a well defined trail with no scrambling required (when on foot).
