Overview
This is a easy loop trail to Max Patch Mountain in Cherokee National Forest. Starting at the parking area, hike north until you reach the summit spur trail (AT to the left, summit trail to the right). Climb approximately 100 yards to the summit for a fantastic view of NC, TN, VA, and the grand Mt. Mitchell looking to the NE. Head back down the spur trail to the AT and head south on the AT and loop along the backside of Max Patch to return to the parking lot.
On-least dogs are allowed.
No camping allowed in the fields at the top of Max Patch as the area is sensitive.

An easy going hike with beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding mountains when you get to the top. Highly recommend taking the time to visit. Went on a Thursday morning and only came across 3 other hikers. The drive to the parking lot is a fun one up the mountain with a chance to see black bears. No such luck for us but did come across some white tailed deer.
