The hike is great for being close to home and if you just need fresh air. It is a very easy hike. Majority of it is flat with the exception of having to climb over a few medium sized boulders at some point to reach the petroglyphs. Wear shoes with good grip because the boulders you climb are smooth, but also fun to slide on. The petroglyphs aren’t on a huge/tall slab of stone, so after you reach your last boulder crawl lookout for some smaller rocks to your right. In the beginning of the hike it is a great location to watch a beautiful sunset and it has panoramic views of Las Vegas. At some point in the hike there is another trail that veers off to your right and it’s called cowboy trail. I’m curious to see what that trail is! It appeared to be a bit rocky so might be a moderate trail. I noted plenty of lizards, bugs and even spotted a few mountain goats on the ridge of the mountains, so be sure to look up! We went at night, so if you go in the evening beware of bats that also inhabit the area. They were nothing to worry about and did not bother us because they were just flying around eating bugs and were also cool to see. Overall great time to bring your family and friends.

This is also known as the “Petroglyph Canyon Trail.”
The entire hike is about 4 miles, but with the entrance being closed off you will need to park on the road and walk in, making it about 5.3 miles. Nice hike! Someone boring at the very beginning & again at the very end. The petroglyphs are awesome, and there are A LOT of them. Depending on the time of day, there may not be much shade. Bring lots of water. Lots of little lizards. Occasional snakes, bigger lizards, and desert tortoises.

Don’t touch the petroglyphs, despite the misleading photo shown for this hike. As the national park service says:
“Avoid Touching the Petroglyphs
Look and observe, BUT DO NOT TOUCH! Preserve petroglyphs by not touching them in any way. Even a small amount of the oils from our hands can darken petroglyphs making them impossible to see.
