This was absolutely breath-taking, once you get there! The terrain starts out in a wash, then into ankle-deep sand, moving to a safe brush meadow and then hard sandstone rock on an angle - your ankles will hate you. You ascend and descend A LOT. I feel like this app and All Trails GROSSLY misrepresents this hike. It was exhausting and was just shy of 12km, total. I would not rank this “easy” by any stretch. The elevation was also inaccurately written as I was over 227m. The last 1.5 miles are THE hardest. Specifically the (approx 0.25-0.50mile) climb to The Wave makes you second guess everything and why you’re out here but when you reach the top and cross into that saddle…. Wow. SOOOO worth it but be prepared!

Great trail and recording was accurate, a few spots are missed that are significant to do while in the area. But overall it will get you to and from The Wave, which is what the trail recording intent is for.
A GPS or cell phone downloaded trail is necessary. Attempting this trail without one of these, and only using the map handout provided, will likely result is missing half the attractions, and possibly not even reach The Wave.

December 18, 2018. Nearly the shortest day of the year but more than enough sunshine. Jacket weather, varying from cool in the morning to warm and comfy mid-day. Wind was light and skies were clear. Yesterday at paw Hole and Cottonwood Cove was wow! despite being overcast, pictures were still great.
The wave is amazing and full of surprises—an A+. We were not disappointed.

This is a one way trip to the Wave starting at Wire Pass Trailhead. This does not include any other sites to see in Coyote Buttes North. Only one-way was recorded to save my battery, however round trip statistics are 6 miles with approx 900-1000ft total gain.
