The hike itself is pretty uneventful. The trail itself consists of a forest access road wide enough for a Jeep or a truck. The distance is pretty spot on at 5 miles one way and there is quite a bit of elevation change. I wouldn’t necessarily consider it a “difficult” rated trail. The suspension bridge and the lake at the end make it worth while though. Nice places to camp by the lake if you’re up for it.

Canebrake Descent to Lake Jocassee 5.63
Great hike down to the Lake and the famous suspension bridge over Toxaway River on the Foothills Trail. 6 of us from the Carolina Mountain Club went and the trail was highlighted by Spring Wildflowers such as Halbert-leaf Violet, White Round-Leaf Violet, Smooth Yellow Forest Violet, Common Blue Violet, Foamflower, Robin's Plantain, Trailing Arbutus, Shrub Yellowroot, Bloodroot and a hillside full of Oconee Bells at Lake Jocassee.
