Tygh Creek Trail #460
Overview
This is a moderate trail along Tygh Creek in the Badger Creek Wilderness section of the Mt Hood National Forest. This east-cascades area is typically drier, sunnier, and warmer than most of the Mt Hood forest. Early summer flowers and fall colors are a big draw as well as open terrain with stunning views.
The hike begins in a lush, big-leaf maple forest that closely follows the north side of Tygh Creek for 0.4 miles. Pulling away from the creek, the ascent steepens, climbing 1200' in 1 mile amongst white oak trees. The route flattens by a meadow near the junction with the Jordan Butte trail. Look south for a view of Mt Jefferson and check out the interesting rock formations. The trail continues a gradual ascent to the Tygh Creek Cut-off Trail 460A and then steepens until its end at the Sunset Spring TH.
Return along the same route, continue to Flag Point or loop back along the Little Badger/School Canyon Trails.
