Overview

This is a easy loop trail to White Domes Slot Canyon in Valley of Fire State Park. I feel this may be the coolest hike at this park, for all ages and that can be done in a hour. For individuals with health limitations. I feel this is cooler then the Mouses Tank trail.

This trail goes by Kaolin Slot Canyon.

Getting Started

This is easy to find. Here is link to the trails within the park http://parks.nv.gov/forms/Valley_of_Fire_Map_1_SE_HWY_162_NET_otln_reduced_2014-02-10.pdf. For individuals with health limitations. For easiness, start the trail, between the trail signs, in the sand. Near the bathrooms. This way, while on the trail, you will be walking DOWN a nature made, rock staircase. Then proceeding through a slot canyon. And finishing the loop, uphill, towards the parking area, over a gradual incline. Vrs UP a rock staircase. We brought our dog, and a leashed dog on this staircase was tricky. This trail head is at an end of the park. So you will passing other sites to see on the way here. We did this last and ate a picnic lunch here. There are covered picnic tables here.

(I went clockwise.) The initial trudge through sand is annoying, but doesn't last long. I did not like the descent into the canyon because the thin layer of sand on uneven, smooth rock made me feel uncomfortable. (I broke my wrist on ice a couple of years ago, so I'm still shy about slippery surfaces.) Unsure of what lay ahead, I almost bailed on the hike, but decided to just take it slow and use my hands for extra points of contact. Once I reached the bottom, I never felt uneasy again. The slot and the views were worth it.
