This trail has a little bit of everything. Meadows lots of stair steps, long vistas, wildlife(bears, deer, tarantulas, snakes, you name it), and bouldering. It’s a challenging hike. Don’t set out with less than 2 liters(3 is advisable) of water, even in the fall. It’s all uphill from the basin to the summit w very short sporadic flat sections. It’s rocky so unless you are experienced wear good hiking boots and bring poles. The return trip is all downhill w all those stair steps ranging from a few inches to a foot or more. One of the best Big Bend Hikes!!!

Our maiden hike and it was a hard one. Long. Hot. Exhausting. Great! The views were amazing and we came across a black bear, which was both terrifying and exhilarating! Most of the hike is pretty gradual and manicured until the last mile or so, which is definitely the hardest part of the whole climb. We used walking sticks the whole hike and they were extremely helpful.
The whole hike was over 10 miles total and took us 5 hours without much stopping, except for short water breaks. I just forgot to start the app.

Long, strenuous hike. Bouldering at the top. Feeling very accomplished!
