This is a wonderful out and back hike, one of my favorites in the Austin area. First mile and last mile is technical and rocky, the rest is of the hike is pretty tame.
Although there are stretches with no shade, there is plenty of shade along the hike as a whole.
Water for the pups at Hunts and Tejas crossing.
Carry plenty of your own water.
A lunch stop at the turn around recommended, beautiful areas to enjoy along the San Gabriel River.
