Hidden Cove Trail Loop
Overview
This is a very nice trail to hike. It is not one of the main attraction trails at South Mountains, so you can expect to not run into many people on this trail. The trail is a nice walk through the woods with some moderate inclines. There are no wonderful views from the top of mountains on this trail, but it is very nice and usually lightly traveled.
Getting Started
Your GPS can get you to the South Mountains State Park. After you enter the park the trailhead to this trail is the first very small parking lot on the left after you pass the main park office on the right. The parking lot only holds about 5 or 6 cars. If this lot is full and you really want to hike this trail, you can part in the horse parking lot and start off on the turkey ridge trail to the hidden cove trail. From the small trail, you will take the narrow trail to the river and follow the blazes for this trail. You will go under the bridge and follow the hidden cove trail to the end where it meets the turkey ridge trail. At the end you can either turn around and come back the way you came, for an out and back trail. Or you can turn left onto the turkey ridge trail and follow it all the way to the horse trailer parking lot. From the horse lot, you will need to walk along the side of the road a bit to get back to the small parking lot.
Taking Children
This hike is pretty easy for children. The only thing to keep in mind that you will need to walk along side of the road for a bit if you choose to take the turkey ridge trail when you get to the end of the hidden cove trail.
