Thurmont Vista Loop via Falls Nature Trail
Overview
This is a difficult loop trail to Thurmont Vista in Cunningham Falls State Park.
This trail goes by Chimney Rock and Wolf Rock.
The rugged terrain on this trail makes it more difficult than the map may initially make it appear. Although the inclines may be shorter and more moderate than many other hikes in the area, the views are no less splendid. The hike between the Visitor Center and Chimney Rock is rocky and uneven, making for difficult footing and slow hiking. At some points the rocks are so plentiful, it can be easy to lose the trail. Fortunately, the park does a fantastic job blazing the trails.
Getting Started
The Visitor Center parking lot is not large and can fill quickly. If that is the case there are several alternate parking lots that enter the trail from different points. You can take the trail in either direction from the Visitor Center.
Taking Children
This is a good trail for children. Take the time to cross the street and visit Cunningham Falls (a short detour). Kids will love climbing over the rocks at Wolf Rock and Chimney Rock. 7/10 for children.
