Sax Fox Trail South trail head is located just just south of the horse coral at Loud Thunder Forest Preserve. This trail is a multi use trail for horses, mountain bikes and hiking. If you’re looking for a short five mile interval hiking, this one may be for you. It is up and down most of the length of the trail. There are a number of stream crossings, all of which are easily traversed. Do make sure that you don’t go after a rain as this trail will be extremely muddy, or will be closed. Even after dry days small parts of the trail may still be muddy. Along with bringing plenty of water, slide the bug spray into your pack because you’re going to need it. It’s the Midwest! The trail, for the most part is maintained, but be sure you stay on the trail as during the warm weather months Poison Ivy is prevalent. Enjoy your hike.
