Overview
This is a moderate loop trail in Maryland, entirely through woods. As of November 2022, most of the steep sections of the trail are in major need of maintenance; small particles have been washed entirely away, leaving a tumbled mass of large rocks. This is exacerbated by the large number of sections where the trail path is very close to the fall line. Many of the trail drainage timbers are significantly undercut also, resulting in very large steps. Nearby Gambrill State Park has similar terrain with better trail conditions.
The view from Sugarloaf itself is largely blocked by trees, but White Rocks, at the Northern side of this trail, has a nice expansive view and is a great place to stop for lunch.
