Wire Pass Slot Canyon via Wire Pass Trail to white house trailhead
Overview
This is a easy out and back trail to Wire Pass Slot Canyon in Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness.
This trail is essentially the gateway into Buckskin Gulch. It is an easy trail and a beginner slot canyon that mostly traverses through a hard packed wash. In the slot canyon you will encounter a man-made ladder to avoid having to drop ~15'. If you have a dog on this trail, you are able to sidestep the slot canyon by taking the sneaker route which is directly to the right of the slot canyon entrance. The trail is well traveled, so you will see tracks.
Getting Started
The road to the trailhead is absolutely treacherous. It is an 8 mile drive of non-stop washboarding and potholes. Anticipate 45 minutes to an hour to make the 8 mile drive. Make sure your vehicle is in good enough condition to make this drive. Once you've driven the 8 miles, you will arrive at the large trailhead parking lot. Here, you will fill out a self-issued permit, and will be required to pay $6/person to hike the trail. From the kiosk, cross the road and begin the hike.
Taking Children
This is a great trail for children, and is a great introduction to slot canyons for all ages.
