Overview

The highlight of this out-and-back hike is the peak of Tumala Mountain in Mount Hood National Forest with the remains of a fire lookout (formerly named Squaw Mtn Lookout). Plan your hike on a clear day for the views. Early summer brings blooming rhododendrons and in fall interesting mushrooms.
Most of the hike traverses through a dark and dense forest paralleling FR-4614. The trail ends at the junction with the Old Baldy Trail #502. To reach the peak, head SE for 1/2 mile to the Tumala Mountain Summit Trail.

Getting Started

Park at the pullout on the east side of Mt Hood FR-4613. Walk south of the pullout to the signed trail. There are no facilities at the trailhead.

Unfortunately, just not a very interesting hike. The lookout is interesting but can be reached via a closer TH. We encountered a sketchy person talking/yelling at himself near the trailhead upon our return. He slunk away when he saw us. No idea how he got there, no car. Often target shooting sounds nearby.
