Mount Hollywood via Hogback Trail
Overview
This is a moderate out and back trail to Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park.
This trail goes by 5 points, Vista Viewpoint, Glendale Peak, Dante's View, and Captain's Roost.
This is a glorious trail that takes you through the heart of Griffith Park, right to the top of Mt. Hollywood. There are stunning views of the LA Basin, the San Fernando Valley, and on clear days, even the ocean. Some parts are steep, and the sandy trail can get slippery, but it's a very manageable hike.
There are also plenty of side paths you can explore along the way, and since you can see the terrain all around you, it's almost impossible to get lost.
Nearly all of the hike is exposed to the sun, so plan accordingly.
Getting Started
Plenty of parking, but when the Greek Theatre is open and having concerts, there is virtually no parking available.
Taking Children
A good hike for kids, since you don't have to go the whole distance. Be sure to bring water and sun hats, as there is virtually no shade whatsoever.
