Overview

This is a moderate out and back trail to Granite Mountain in Granite Mountain Wilderness Area.

Getting Started

The Granite Mountain is an 8.2 mile out and back trail with about 1440ft of elevation gain near Prescott AZ. The hike starts at the Metate Trailhead and you will walk though
Ponderosa Pines, Alligator Juniper, Cottonwoods, Willows and a variety of other trees. The surrounding vegetation is beautiful and the smell of the pines has a calming effect as you hike.

As you follow the trail you walk though massive granite boulders as you head up the trail. You will wind up moderate switchbacks to a saddle. As you continue on you will rewarded with amazing views of a lake and the Granite Dells below.

This is a beautiful hike that you must put on you list to do.

Taking Children

This would be a difficult hike for children.
