Mount Adams Summit Hike via South Climb Trail #183
Overview
This is a difficult one way trail in Mount Adams Wilderness. Mount Adams is the 2nd highest peak in Washington and this summit should only be accomplished by experienced hikers, with necessary gear (crampons/ice axe/poles etc).
This trail starts near Cold Springs Campground and passes Crescent Glacier. There are no established trails beyond Crescent Glacier.
Summit can be accomplished via a long strenuous day hike or a backpack with many staying at the Lunch Counter (approx 9,400ft) but there are numerous sites on the way. The sites are very exposed and can be found by the rock wall wind shelters.
Getting Started
Very heavily traffic trail. Lots of parking but expect to park on the side of the road on the way to the trailhead especially during the weekends. There are 2 vault toilets at the trailhead.
Need a Cascade Volcano Pass for this hike ($15 weekend; $10 week days) from Trout Lake Ranger station or via recreation.gov.
Make sure to pick up a "Human Waste pack-out System" at the trail head for your defecation needs in the sensitive area
