Overview
This is an out and back hike however camping is allowed by permit at Paliku. The area is so stunning and hike so long, you’ll want to stay a night. This hike treks through a variety of ecosystems and landscapes through the Wilderness Area at Haleakala National Park on Maui Island in Hawaii.
About half way in, you’ll hike past Kapalaoa cabin where there’s a pit toilet.
Look for the rare silverswords flowering and the native Nene geese.
This hike is completely exposed. Have plenty of water, snacks, foul weather gear, and lights if you begin after noon. Only bathrooms are at the trailhead.
