Overview

This is a moderate loop trail in Bull Run Mountains State Natural Area.

Although this one is listed as 4.5 miles, you will be hard pressed to get that kind of distance. This is a fantastic beginner loop. Expect about 3-4 miles of wooded trails, with few steep inclines. Unfortunately, the trail to the overlook at the top has been closed (erosion control) so the reward of looking out for miles on a clear day is significantly quashed. However, it is still a fantastic and relatively easy hike for all skill levels.

Note that dogs are not permitted on the trail.

Getting Started

There is a parking area which leads directly to the trailhead.

Taking Children

This is a pretty good hike for young children. However, with the overlook closed indefinitely, there is little reward. 8/10 when the overlook was opened. 6/10 without it.

A well maintained trail with many interesting things to see along the journey. There are some low wet areas but they're easily avoided by well placed large rocks. There's even a little old grave yard... Overall a great little trail that I'll be sure to hit again.
