Overview
This is an easy out and back trail to Griffith Observatory in Griffith Park.
This trail goes by Berlin Forest.
This is a highly-trafficked hike in Griffith Park, for obvious reasons: it's easily accessible, it's not that difficult, and the reward at the top is stunning views of the city.
Continue past the Observatory to the Berlin Gardens and some welcome shade). Or carry on for another mile and a half to Mt. Hollywood.
Taking Children
The hike up to the Observatory is a great one for kids. Just be sure to bring sun hats and water on hot days.

We arrived at 6:30am and there was plenty of parking. To park closest to the trailhead, park across from the Trail’s Cafe. Sunrise wasn’t until 7, so it was very dark. I used my phone light until we found the trail. From parking, walk down the ramp and towards the picnic benches & restrooms. The West Trail is the middle trail. It’s a good, short hike. It took us 20 min to get to the Observatory. The Observatory was beautiful in the dark b/c of the lights. If trail is too easy, u can trail run, the trail is wide. On the drive out, around 7:30, people were parking have a mile down the road. Enjoy!
