South Valley Trail and High Meadows Trail Loop (Quantico)
Overview
This is a moderate loop trail in Virginia.
This is one of my favorite loops in Prince William Forest. It features almost everything the park has to offer: streams, an abundance of foliage and different plant life, and considerable wildlife. We even spotted a few turtles along the trail. Be ready for some hills to climb, though none of them were particularly strenuous or steep. Some parts of the trail are not as well marked. At one point, we lost the trail where it crossed the road, but quickly picked it back up again.
Getting Started
Parking is in the lot next to the turkey hill campground. This is a generously sized lot. Hike a short distance up the road, and the trail begins just passed the vehicle gate.
Taking Children
This is a good area for children. The complete loop may be long for younger children, but there is a lot to see and do here. Depending on the ages and abilities of your children, you may want to consider cutting part of the loop or only doing portions. Kids will love splashing in the streams in warmer weather.
