Myrtle Gully Circuit Loop
Overview
Record breaking plants and fantastic birds!
This is a easy loop trail in Victoria, but muddy in places after rain.
The northern end of this loop is dominated by the world’s tallest flowering plant, the magnificent mountain ash. The southern end loops through the boardwalks of Wirrawilla rainforest, including dawsonia superba - the world’s tallest moss, and myrtle beeches that were here long before the eucalypts arrived from what is now South America.
Evidence of lyrebirds fills the air in the form of their amazing songs, and their scratchings cover the ground. If you watch carefully, at the right time of year (late winter) you might even catch a glimpse of one performing his song and dance routine for the ladies.
Getting Started
You can start at the southern end of the loop, at the Wirrawilla car park off Sylvia Creek Road (toilets and picnic tables available), or at the northern end at Tanglefoot car park.
Taking Children
Muddy and moderately steep, suitable for fit older children.
