Kearsarge Mountain State Forest via Barlow Trail
Overview
This is a easy one way trail in Kearsarge Mountain Wildlife Area. It is one of two trails that ascend Mount Kearsarge from Winslow State Park. It is a fairly even ascent though the trail is somewhat rough with many rocks, roots and some muddy spots. The upper reaches feature stone slabs that could be difficult if wet or icy. Fantastic 360 views from the top.
This trail goes by Kearsarge Mountain State Forest.
Getting Started
Follow directions to Winslow State Park. there is parking for 30 vehicles, porta potties, picnic tables and fire pits as well as a play structure. A fee is charged to enter the park. The trails leave from the top of the parking area and are well marked.
Taking Children
A good hike for kids. I did it with my 8 and 6 year old grandsons. Bring plenty of water and snacks.
This is an alternate route for Gile State Forest Loop via Barlow Trail and Winslow Trail.
