Bear Trap Canyon Trail
Overview
This is an easy one-way trail in Lee Metcalf Wilderness Area. The trail hugs the Madison River for most of the hike, providing a beautiful backdrop to this stunning canyon. In the spring, runoff can make some areas muddy, but it's nearly always passable. As on most hikes in this area, make sure to bring bear spray along.
Getting Started
There is a large parking lot at the end of the road where the trail begins, with a public bathroom and a picnic table.
Taking Children
This is an ideal hike for kids of all ages. There are only a few short stretches with any real incline, and for the most part the trail is fairly flat. There is no shade, however, so come prepared in the summer.
