Liberty Lake 7/11/18 12:56:10
I set out to explore the Liberty Lake Regional Park Trail on a whim on a Wednesday afternoon. The hike is quite sunny for the first mile, but then enters the canopy of the forest as the trail follows Liberty Creek. Around a mile in the trail splits, if you go right, over the bridge, you'll stay on the main trail, and if you go left, you'll take the split creek trail. The split creek trail re-connects with the main trail right before entering the Cedar Grove Conservation Area. I opted to take the bridge in the outbound direction and the split creek trail on the way back. I would recommend this as well. A little under 2 miles in is the Cedar Grove Conservation Area. It was shaded and beautiful. There is a bench here to take a break and re-fuel for the upcoming ascent. Cross the bridge and immediately start to climb 11 switchbacks up the side of the mountain that leads to Mica Peak. After the switch backs it levels out mostly, and it is about a mile to make it to the waterfall. This is where I rested, soaked my feet, and turned around. Remember : $2 for park entry day use fee and water Beware : I spotted a Rattlesnake on the way back to the trailhead!!! Keep your eyes on the trail in the sunny stretches of trail!
