Public Tracks
Whitaker Peak,
Hiking with the huskies, Wolf & Lark
Trail: Going North on Hwy. 5, take exit 183/Templin Hwy. , turn left, then right on Old Golden State Hwy. Trail is on the left, few miles down, there is brown sign for Rd. To Whitaker Peak.
Trail Conditions: The first 2 miles are on old asphalt road, then dirt road, and some pebbles & rocks. Safe & fine for dry or wet wether. I read somewhere, that this area can get the strongest winds that SoCal has seen. Not today Satan!
I hiked all the way to the end of the road. Did not find the trail to the actual peak, my GPS said that I was only 10 ft. below the actual highest point. Will try it again in the future.
Views: amazing all around, at least for me. Love nature. I hiked on a Saturday, so the highway noise was not aggravating. I ignored & enjoyed my hike. Completely gone as you reach the western side.
Weather: 64 F, had front breeze all the way to first flat saddle, then warm to out end of the trail. On the way back, shade for last 2 miles, again with mild wind from front. Wind changed direction just for us😜
Wildlife Sightings: birds, lizards, first snakes of the season.
Scat: coyotes, bobcat, ? Bear
Water Source: none
Shade: depending on time of hiking, returning from the top, had shade almost all the way down while on the easterly side of the mountain. Very little on the the western side.
Highlight of the hike:
1) Go to hike a new area & learn about it.
2) Safe & no injuries
