Mount Van Cott loop from JCC
The hike starts and ends at the JCC, which can be reached easily by taking the University TRAX line to its eastern terminus. From there it's a 10 minute walk to the trailhead. If you want to drive, note that you can only park in the small upper lot by the power substation, and only on weekends.
The hike offers good views over the valley and should take 1.5-2.5 hours. It is almost entirely exposed, so in the summer I'd recommend against doing this one in the middle of the day. Even on weekends it's usually not very busy.
There are several options for the descent that are a little more gentle than the one I took.
