Kagel Peak via Dillon Divide (1/29/22, 12:08:23PM)
Hiked with Lark my husky.
Trail: started hiking from Dillon Divide, taking the dirt road on the right side, coming from 14N area. Trail is in good condition, going up most of the way. Last stretch of the road has a bit of rockier terrain, but is totally fine.
Weather: it was in the low 50’s but felt a bit cooler with the tiny Santa Ana winds. Grey skies, hiked under a mushroom like cover, still had beautiful view of the DTLA skyscrapers.
Water Source: none, besides what you have with you.
Wildlife Sightings: none, only coyote poop & deer footprints. Birds.
Other Hikers: a young couple hiking up as we were descending. They were in shorts & frozen 🥶!
Climbed to the top of the space saucer like across from the gate, where the other trail & gate is (goes to Mendenhall & Iron # 2) . Also scouted for the use trail to the Pinnacle Pk.
A solo hiker was watching me as I scrambled down from the saucer… and said “I am happy that now I know how to get there”. We talked for a short while and he seemed to remember that another hiker said that there was a faint use trail going up to the Pinnacle. Not a huge peak, but steep. I know the feeling…in the summer you can’t see the trail, bushes almost covers it all.
Highlight Of The Hike:
1) No injuries
2) Enjoyed the hike very much
3) Weather perfect for this hike
4) Got to climb to the top of the saucer thing.Mt
