Northbound on the Appalachian Trail from Shippensburg Road to Pine Grove Furnace. This is an easy to moderate difficulty hike (3 stars out of 5) that is mostly downhill. The Shippensburg Road parking lot is somewhat limited (about 12 cars) but the road shoulders are wide allowing more parking. There are no restroom facilities at this location. The parking lot address is 2749 Shippensburg Rd Biglerville, PA 17307 and the GPS coordinates are 39°59'51.3"N 77°24'19.0"W 39.997576, -77.405267 Highlights of this hike include the official midway point of the Appalachian Trail, Tom's Run Shelter and access to the Sunset Rocks trail (blue blaze) that offers an opportunity to climb onto a scenic rock outcropping with good views. The Sunset Rocks trail re-connects with the Appalachian Trail at Mountain Creek.
